Not much to say about celery, everyone knows about it and how good it is for your body. So let’s just enjoy this beauty!
Allow it to grow to a decent seedling size before transferring into the net pot.
Growing celery hydroponically is surprisingly amazing, allowing you to harvest this nutritious vegetable efficiently.
Choose your Hydroponic System
There are several types of hydroponic systems suitable for growing celery
Ebb and Flow: This system periodically floods the plant roots with nutrient solution and then drains it back into a reservoir.
Deep Water Culture (DWC): In this system, celery roots are suspended in nutrient-rich water, promoting rapid growth due to constant access to nutrients and oxygen.
In our case, we have chosen to use DWC. That’s how we grow most of our indoor plants.
Start your seeds
From Seeds: Start by planting seeds in a suitable hydroponic growing medium of your choice. The best option for us is coco coir because it’s easy to remove the seedlings without damaging the roots. About 1/8 inch deep. Keep them consistently moist and it should germinate which in about a week.
Transplant
Once seedlings have developed true leaves, transplant them into your hydroponic system. Ensure that they are spaced adequately to allow for proper air circulation and nutrient access.
Nutrients
Feed your celery with appropriate hydroponic nutrients that include essential minerals like magnesium and calcium to strengthen stalks.
Harvest time
Celery can take about 120 to 140 days from seed germination to harvest maturity when grown hydroponically.
You can harvest individual stalks as needed by cutting close to the base.
Alternatively you can regrow celery cutting just by using water. Just soak it for several days until it starts to form roots, at this point you can transfer it outdoors or in the net pot for your DWC setup. Best to do it this way just in case the celery starts to rot.
Happy Growing!
